This is a healthy recipe (if you use healthy ingredients), and it’s simple and easy to make.  It’s also open to interpretation, meaning that you can add just about anything you normally like on a pizza.

Here are the 4 basic ingredients:

  • 1 tube of ready made pizza crust (get it by the canned biscuits)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) chopped italian seasoned tomatoes
  • 1 package 93/7 ground turkey
  • About 2/3 (10 oz) of package of 2% shredded mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

We usually cook healthy, so we use ground turkey in place of ground beef most of the time.  We also don’t use 85/15 or 90/10 ground turkey, but the 96/4 can sometimes just be too dry.  93/7 is the best (for us).  I cook the ground turkey in some olive oil with seasonings to taste (salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, and some garlic powder).

After the ground turkey is cooked, just turn off the heat and add the can of tomatoes and mix together.  I sprayed a glass 9×13 pan with some cooking spray, and pressed the pizza crust in the bottom of the pan and halfway up the sites (about an inch or more).  Then add the meat tomato mixture.

At this point you could add whatever you wanted to the top of the mixture (like a pizza).  We just did chopped onion and green pepper for our toppings, and put the cheese on top.  But, you could just as easily add pepperoni, black olives, or whatever you want.  We might use turkey pepperoni next time (delicious!).

Once you get your toppings on the meat mixture and cheese on top – back for about 13-15 minutes on the bottom rack.  Less time for a little gooey, more time for a little crispy.  Final tip – I always sprinkle Italian seasonings and a little garlic powder on top before I pop it in the oven.

Enjoy!
